Most people think the darker it is, the better it should be, but the idea is to let the sun's rays pass THROUGH the cover and then keep their energy inside. A dark (dark blue or even black) cover will not allow the solar energy to pass through, but will absorb it, leaving the pool water cold. Likewise a silver aluminium cover will reflect the rays and they cannot pass through to heat your water.
